A surgical instrument (100) for abdominal placement of a movement limiting device (10) used in surgical procedures to treat a patient's reflux disease is disclosed. The surgical instrument includes a sleeve 113 and a retaining device 111 configured to engage the movement limiting device, the retaining device being disposed inside the sleeve and configured to be displaceable relative to the sleeve. The surgical instrument further includes a first handling portion 101 connected to the sleeve and a second handling portion 102 connected to the holding device.
