A method of manufacturing a packaged antimicrobial suture with a long shelf life, according to which: create an inner package containing a source of antimicrobial agent； create an adsorbent material that effectively absorbs part of the antimicrobial agent over time； place the suture in the inner packaging, and the suture has one or more surfaces； close the inner package with an outer package having an inner surface； act on the suture thread, the inner packaging and the inner surface of the outer packaging at such temperature and pressure and for such a time that is sufficient to transfer the vapor of an effective amount of antimicrobial agent from the source of the antimicrobial agent to the suture thread and to the inner packaging, as a result of which formation is essentially inhibited bacterial colonies on the suture thread and inner packaging, the packaged antimicrobial suture thread exhibiting long-term storage properties. 2. A method for manufacturing a packaged antimicrobial suture according to claim 1, wherein the absorbent material is formed by coating an absorbent material on at least a portion of one surface of the inner packaging. A method for manufacturing a packaged antimicrobial suture according to claim 1, wherein the absorbent material is formed by placing the absorbent substrate inside the outer packaging.
