PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cosmetic composition which exhibits an excellent feeling of use and has satisfactory stability such that deterioration such as viscosity reduction or separation is never caused even when stored for long periods, in addition to high safety.SOLUTION: The cosmetic composition contains the following components (a)-(d) and water: (a) alkyl-modified carboxyvinyl polymer, (b) xanthane gum, (c) pentylene glycol and/or 1,2-hexanediol, and (d) one or more compounds selected from polyhydric alcohol fatty acid esters (except monoglyceride undecylenate) and alkyl glycosides.
