A dentifrice composition comprising: (i) a complex of magnesium silicate and an alkali metal with clay and (ii) an orally acceptable anionic polymer based dentifrice； in which, after being included in the dentifrice, the clay remains substantially unhydrated. 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the clay is a hectorite clay. The composition of claim 2, wherein the hectorite clay is a synthetic clay containing 58-61% silica, 26-29% magnesium oxide, 0.7-0.9% dilithium oxide and 2.6-3% disodium oxide. four. The composition of claim 1, wherein the clay is about 1-5% by weight of the composition. The composition of claim 1, wherein the anionic polymer is a synthetic anionic polymer polycarboxylate. A composition according to claim 1, wherein the anionic polymer is methyl vinyl ether / maleic anhydride having an average molecular weight of from about 30,000 to about 1,000,000. A composition according to claim 1, wherein the anionic polymer comprises about 1-5% by weight of the composition. The composition of claim 1, further comprising an effective amount of an additional agent selected from fluoride, arginine in a free or orally acceptable salt form, an antibacterial agent in addition to the gallium salt and basic amino acid polymer, an anti-inflammatory agent, a bleaching agent, and a combination of two or more of them .9. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition is a toothpaste containing one or more components of water, an abrasive material, a surfactant, a foaming agent, a vitamin, a polymer, an enzyme, a moisturizing agent, a thickening agent, an antimicrobial agent1.
