A real-time analyte sensing device that can be connected to a-peritoneal catheter having a first flexible tube, a second flexible tube, connected to a 3-way port and including an analyte sensor connected to a sensor wire at one end by a sensor connector. The sensor wire has a second end that is a data connector. The analyte sensor is connected to the peritoneal catheter via an anti-reflux valve in a third port of the 3-way port. This disclosure further describes a method of changing a dialysis protocol in a patient undergoing peritoneal dialysis. The method includes connecting the sensor device to an intraperitoneal catheter in the patient and connecting the data connector of the device to circuitry that is configured to analyze data received from the analyte sensor and determining a change to the dialysis protocol, and changing the dialysis protocol based on the data received from the analyte sensor.
