The present invention relates to a neuroprotective peptide, which is characterized in that it comprises the 11 C-terminal amino acids of TrkB-T1 (residues 466‑476) (SEQ ID No. 1) and is capable of impeding and/or inhibiting binding between TrkB‑T1 and the molecules that interact therewith in a neurone and/or glial cell. The present invention also protects the use of said neuroprotective peptide for preventing and/or treating neuronal damage in mammals caused by a cerebrovascular disease or cerebral ischemia and/or by another pathological condition of the CNS associated with excitotoxicity, and/or traumatic cerebral and/or medullary damage. Also protected is a pharmaceutical composition or drug, which is characterized in that it comprises said neuroprotective peptide, and also the use thereof in the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases and other pathological conditions of the CNS.
