Disclosed is a single-dose adjuvanted Rabies virus vaccine composition comprising an attenuated recombinant Orthopox or Avipox viral vector and a methylated chitosan derivative adjuvant, wherein the vector is capable of expressing in an animal host one or more Rabies virus immunogens, and wherein the presence of the adjuvant is associated with both increased viscosity, and increased protective efficacy against subsequent experimental or natural challenge with a virulent Rabies virus, as compared to an otherwise equivalent composition wherein the adjuvant has been omitted. Also disclosed is uses and methods of eliciting immune responses in animals.
