Retractable syringes have been proposed having a cutting head that is placed on the syringe plunger. When the plunger is advanced to expel fluid from the syringe, the cutting crown, a holding mechanism for holding a syringe needle unit is cut, the drive mechanism can push the needle unit into the syringe.
