PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for cosmetically whitening teeth in vivo.SOLUTION: A method of cosmetically whitening teeth in vivo comprises exposing the teeth to be whitened to a flow of nonthermal gaseous plasma at a temperature acceptable for oral administration of the nonthermal gaseous plasma and for a time sufficient for the nonthermal gaseous plasma to have a tooth-whitening effect. An applicator tube 16 may be inserted into the oral cavity through a flexible hose 14 to perform treatment repeatedly. Application of a pulsed voltage across the electrodes of a plasm generating cell 8 causes the non-thermal gaseous plasma to be formed.
