The present invention relates to the field of pharmaceutical and functional food preparations, and more particularly to foamable preparations of ornithine aspartate as well as to a process for its preparation. The preparation of ornithine aspartate according to the present invention comprises an acid component as well as a gas generating component which releases carbon dioxide upon contact with water. The present invention provides a simple process for the preparation of such preparations which is chemically pure and stable and which exhibits a high level of foaming.
