A method of making a biocompatible, implantablemedical device, including a vascular closure device is disclosed. Themethod includes forming a biocompatible polymer into at least onefiber and randomly orienting the at least one fiber into a fibrousstructure having at least one interstitial spaces. Polymeric materials maybe utilized to fabricate any of these devices. The polymeric materialsmay include additives such as drugs or other bioactive agents as wellas antibacterial agents. In such instances, at least one agent, intherapeutic dosage, is incorporated into at least one of the fibrous structureand the at least one fiber.
