The present invention relates to a dosing mechanism for use in a drug delivery device (1) implementing a dial setting mode and a dosing mode, the dosing mechanism comprising a dose button (40), a housing (10, 13, 30) and a decision unit. A dose button (40) is actuable by a user for dose dispensing and includes a display element (38) coupled to the housing (10, 13, 30) from a first position to a second position. The displacement unit is adapted to detect and display the display element (38) in its second position, thereby determining that the dosing mechanism is in dosing mode. According to the present invention, it is possible to distinguish between the dial setting mode and the medication mode.
