The invention relates to a method for automatically monitoring the germination and growth of incipient stages. According to the invention, the method is meant to be used for determining growth and germination indices and comprises the following stages: the automatic scanning of the seeds to be monitored, at regular time intervals; storing the acquired images; measuring the biometric parameters and counting the germinated seeds, in real time; storing data concerning the biometric parameters and the number of germinated seeds; automatically calculating the growth and development indices, at the end of the monitoring period; and visualizing the graphic and tabular results on a display of the processing unit.
