A container for storage of foodstuff in a modified atmosphere, comprising a source of gas adapted to increase the concentration of a first gas in the container, comprises means for putting the container into communication with scavenger means (22) for a second gas, the container being provided with a control unit adapted to drive the source of first gas and/or the means for putting the container into communication with scavenger means of the second gas depending on the type of foodstuff loaded in the container.
