The thrombus capture catheter includes an elongated tubular shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and an expandable expansion member at the distal end. The expansion member can be inflated from the folded delivery configuration to the expanded configuration. In the expanded configuration, the expansion member extends to define a funnel shape having an enlarged distal thrombus inlet opening at the distal most end of the catheter. In the expanded configuration, the expansion member can extend distally beyond the distal most tip of the shaft.
