590115 Disclosed is a dental charting system. The system has a control device which is either held by a user or is mounted to another device (10) held by a user. The control device comprising one or more movement sensors for sensing movement of the control device in space and generating representative movement signals. A gesture processing module receives and processes the movement signals and detects the occurrence of a gesture event from a set of predetermined gesture events. The gesture processing module then generates representative gesture control signals. A dental charting application program (12) running on a host device (14) provides a graphic user interface on a display (13) associated with the host device (14) for interacting with the application program (12). The application program (12) is configured to receive and process the gesture control signals to enable interaction with the graphic user interface by the user via hand gesture movements of the control device.
