A device (100) for treating fractures, comprises an intramedullarymember (104) sized and shaped for insertion along a longitudinalaxis of a bone within a medullary canal thereof, the intramedullarymember including an opening (108) extending obliquelytherethrough, the opening, when the intramedullary member is in adesired position within a bone, aligning with a desired axis along which animplant (102) is to be inserted into a bone, the intramedullary memberincluding a channel (110) formed therewithin and opening to the openingand a locking mechanism (106) mounted in the channel, the lockingmechanism including a locking abutting structure (105) extending intothe opening in combination with an implant sized to be slidably receivedthrough the opening and inserted along the desired axis, the implantincluding a plurality of implant abutting structures aligned to engage thelocking abutting structure preventing medial movement of the implantrelative to the intramedullary member.
