An apparatus (11) for the concentration of a mixture of fatty substance and aqueous fluid is provided. This device (11) comprises a chamber (31) for containing a mixture of fatty substance and aqueous fluid, and an absorbent (25) body. The chamber (31) includes a barrier member (23) having at least one opening (24), and the opening (24) from the chamber (31) to the absorbent (25) from a closed position where the opening (24) is closed. It has been found that by using an absorbent material, the fatty material can be concentrated to the required extent in a passive single container process without damaging the adipose tissue.
