The present invention provides a novel composition capable of treating and preventing Alzheimers disease (AD), wherein the composition at least contains a yellow pigment extracted from a red mold product, and the said yellow pigment is Monascin or Ankaflavin. A variety of experimental results reveal that, it can effectively perform the AD treating and preventing efficacy when administrating the Monascin with a first adult dose of above 18 mg/day or the Ankaflavin with a second adult dose of above 2.6 mg/day. Moreover, according to the experimental results, it is able to this novel composition can alleviate the memory loss and the learning disability resulted from the β-amyloid accumulated in brain as well as reduce the inflammation and the oxidative stress caused by theβ-amyloid in cerebral cortex and hippocampus tissue. Therefore, the experimental results has proved that the novel composition is indeed able to treat and prevent Alzheimers disease.本發明係提供一種可治療與預防阿茲海默症之組合物,係至少包含:紅麴黃色素之莫那斯辛(monascin)或安卡分拉命(ankaflavin),其中,所述莫那斯辛或安卡分拉命係萃取自一紅麴發酵產物;並且,服用量為成人每日攝食18mg以上的莫那斯辛或者服用量為成人每日攝食2.6mg以上的安卡分拉命係能夠顯示出具有治療與預防阿茲海默症之功效。本發明之可治療與預防阿茲海默症之組合物可減輕由腦部β-Amyloid堆積現象所造成的記憶喪失與學習能力降低症狀,並可降低β-Amyloid於大腦皮質與海馬迴組織內所誘導發生的發炎反應與氧化壓力,藉此方式便能夠有效預防與治療阿茲海默症。
