The present invention discloses an apparatus for programming a power supplyable ophthalmic lens having a programmable medium insert. In some embodiments, the media insert may be programmable to allow additional customization of the powered eye lens. Programming can occur after electrical components are encapsulated within the programmable media insert. In some embodiments, the device can wirelessly program the media insert after the ophthalmic lens is fully assembled. Alternatively, the apparatus can indirectly program the media insert by programming the overlay wirelessly.
