A guide provides for placing a suture anchor into an outer rim of a glenoidcavityof a patient adjacent an edge of a glenoid labrum. The guide comprises anelongated guidetube having an axial lumen with a distal opening a rim engagement memberpivotallyattached to the elongated tube adjacent the distal opening. The rim engagementmemberhas a first contact surface and a second contact surface each of which aredistal of theguide tube and are separated from each other and disposed on opposite lateralsides of theguide tube whereby to allow placement of the contact member over the glenoidrim, withsubsequent angular positioning of the guide tube and passage of an instrumentdown thelumen to the labrum.
