The invention relates to a pharmaceutical formulation for the sustained release of an active agent into the eye, consisting of a biocompatible, biodegradable excipient and an active agent or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof； wherein the biocompatible, biodegradable excipient is selected from the group consisting of tocopherol isomers and their esters, tocotrienal isomers and their esters, and benzyl benzoate； and wherein the formulation is implanted or injected directly into the eye.
