FIELD: hygiene.SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to endoscope sterilisation. Disclosed is a peristaltic pump for use in a sterilisation compartment of a sterilisation chamber, comprising a flexible pump hose having an electrically conductive fitting at each end in contact with fluid in the pump hose, a motor-driven impeller disposed in relation to pump hose such that when impeller is driven it will intermittently bear against pump hose so as to bring internal walls of pump hose together, a first electrode in contact with conductive fitting at outlet end of pump hose, a second electrode in contact with conductive fitting at inlet end of pump hose means for applying a voltage across electrodes and means for measuring an electrical parameter between conductive fittings. When outlet end of pump hose is connected to one end of an endoscope and immersed in a conductive sterilising liquid in sterilisation compartment, and inlet end of pump hose is in connection with sterilising liquid in sterilisation compartment, only conductive path existing between first electrode and second electrode when pump is operated, apart from via pump hose, is via lumen of endoscope.
