Suggested is a method of obtaining a composition for inhibiting unwanted growth of human hair and/or increasing pigmentation of human hair and/or increasing pigmentation of human skin and/or increasing the level of CE protein components, comprising or consisting of the following steps: (i) extracting viable, freeze-dried or dried cells of Tetraselmis sp., preferably Tetraselmis suecica, with water and optionally a second liquid extractant selected from the group consisting of hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, and (ii) optionally adjusting the phototoxicity of the composition to a phototoxicity index of less than 5, wherein the extraction comprises (i-a) exposition of the cell material to the extractant for up to 24 h at a temperature of not more than 50 °C, and (i-b) removal of the cell material to obtain an extract, the extract being the composition or being further processed into the composition.
