Linear, branched or crosslinked anionic polyelectrolyte obtained by polymerization of: (a) monomeric units (80-99.5 mass%) derived from a monomer having partially or completely salified free strong acid function; (b) 0.5-10 mass% of monomer (Ia) and monomer (Ib), where (Ia) has a molecular weight of 1500-7000 and (Ib) has a molecular weight of 1000-4000; (c) optionally 0-5 mass% of monomeric units derived from monomer (II); and (d) optionally 0-5 mass% of at least one monomer of crosslinking diethylene or polyethylene, is claimed. Linear, branched or crosslinked anionic polyelectrolyte obtained by polymerization of: (a) monomeric units (80-99.5 mass%) derived from a monomer having partially or completely salified free strong acid function; (b) 0.5-10 mass% of monomer of formula (R-(CH 2) 3-Si(CH 3) 2-[O-Si(CH 3) 2-] nO-Si(CH 3) 2-(CH 2) 3-R) (Ia) and monomer of formula (Si(CH 3) 3-[O-Si(CH 3) 2-] m[O-Si(CH 3)[(CH 2) 3-R]-] rO-Si(CH 2) 3) (Ib), where (Ia) has a molecular weight of 1500-7000 and (Ib) has a molecular weight of 1000-4000; (c) optionally 0-5 mass% of monomeric units derived from monomer of formula (R2-C(=O)-O-[CH 2-CH(R 4)-O] l-R3) (II); and (d) optionally 0-5 mass% of at least one monomer of crosslinking diethylene or polyethylene, is claimed. R : monovalent radical of formula (-(O-CH 2-CH 2-) x[O-CH 2-CH(CH 3)-] yO-C(=O)-CH=CH 2); x : 0-40 such that the sum of x and y is 0-50; n : 0-45; m : 1-7; r : 1-20; R1 : H or methyl (preferred); t : 1-3, preferably 1; l : 0-50; R2 : unsaturated 2-4C aliphatic monovalent radical; R4 : H, methyl radical or ethyl radical; and R3 : linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated radical 8-30C aliphatic hydrocarbyl. Independent claims are included for: (1) preparing the anionic polyelectrolyte comprising preparing a reactional mixture including, in desired molar proportions and in a solvent, (a), (b), optionally (c) or optionally (d), where the solvent is ketone (75-100 mole%) of formula (R3-C(=O)-R4) or a consistent mix
