The present invention relates to a method for identifying a region of the heart of a patient likely to be involved in the perpetuation of atrial fibrillation. The method takes into account the reference period of the arrhythmia and has two variations: local variations where the regions of the heart are analyzed separately and local variations where some of the regions of the heart are analyzed together.
