Disclosed is a virus like particle (VLP) comprising an influenza virus M1 protein and influenza virus H5 and N1 hemagglutinin and neuraminidase proteins. Also disclosed is a vaccine comprising an effective dose of the VLP. Further disclosed is the use of at least one effective dose of the vaccine in the manufacture of a medicament for inducing substantial immunity to influenza virus infection in an animal, wherein said medicament is formulated for administration to said animal.
