Antibacterial compositions comprising nanoparticles formed from copper oxo-hydroxide are described that are capable of delivering biocidal concentrations of copper, typically in the form of free copper ions (Cu2+). The nanoparticle compositions generally comprise small particles, typically having mean diameters in the range of 1-100nm, having comparatively high surface area-to-volume ratio and enhanced reactivity compared to the corresponding bulk counterpart materials and which are sufficiently labile to release the free copper efficiently.L'invention concerne des compositions antibactériennes comprenant des nanoparticules formées à partir d'oxo-hydroxyde de cuivre capables d'apporter du cuivre à des concentrations biocides, typiquement sous la forme d'ions de cuivre libres (Cu2+). Les compositions de nanoparticules comprennent généralement de petites particules, possédant typiquement un diamètre moyen situé dans la plage comprise entre 1 et 100 nm, possédant comparativement un rapport superficie/volume élevé et une réactivité améliorée en comparaison aux matériaux correspondants à l'état brut, et qui sont suffisamment labiles pour libérer le cuivre libre de manière efficace.
