The present invention concerns Au and Cu-based mononuclear coordination compounds, drug formulations thereof, the relating synthesis and encapsulation method in macromolecules or supramolecular aggregates or nanostructures, as well as their application in the treatment of inflammations, particularly those associated to osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis or other chronic and non-chronic rheumatic (or systemic) diseases. Said compounds and formulations present a promising toxicological profile and an high anti-inflammatory activity, as well as a remarkable stability and solubility in physiological means.
