The present disclosure provides targeting peptides and vectors containing sequences encoding targeting peptides that deliver drugs to the eye. The present inventors have discovered peptides that function to target agents such as viral vectors to ocular cells. The present disclosure describes how to utilize these novel peptides, for example, to direct viral capsid to a cell type of interest. In this case, ocular cells (eg retinal cells) are targeted by the identified peptides.
