PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminant having a wide width of an emission spectrum and high emission intensity.SOLUTION: A method for producing the illuminant includes a step for preparing a starting raw material including porous silica 300 in which pores 314 are formed and subjecting the prepared starting raw material to prescribed treatment to chemically modify inner surfaces of the pores 314.
