The present invention relates to a composition for preventing, alleviating or treating dry eye syndrome comprising an extract of Achyranthes aspera or a fraction thereof as an active component. The extract of Achyranthes aspera or the fraction thereof decreases the expression amount of IL-8 genes increased by fine dust, increases the expression amount of mucin-1 protein reduced by fine dust, increases the amount of tear secretion reduced by dry eye syndrome, and inhibits the change of corneal morphology in which a round circular shape is bent and crushed, thereby being able to be usefully utilized as medicines or health functional food for preventing, alleviating or treating dry eye syndrome.본 발명은 우슬 추출물 또는 이의 분획물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 안구건조증의 예방, 개선 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 본 발명의 우슬 추출물 또는 이의 분획물은 미세먼지에 의해 증가된 IL-8 유전자의 발현량을 감소시키고, 미세먼지에 의해 감소된 뮤신-1 단백질의 발현량을 증가시킬 뿐만 아니라, 안구건조증에 의해 감소된 눈물 분비량을 증가시키며, 둥근 원형이 휘어지고 찌그러지는 각막 형태의 변화를 억제할 수 있으므로, 안구건조증의 예방, 개선 또는 치료를 위한 의약품 또는 건강기능성식품으로 유용하게 활용될 수 있다.
