The invention relates to a modular intensive therapy appliance comprising a base unit (1) with at least one module plug-in site (12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4) formed in a docking surface (A), and at least one function module (2) which can be docked and releasably locked on the at least one module plug-in site (12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4) on the base unit (1) and can be electrically connected thereto, wherein each module plug-in site (12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4) and each function module (2) are formed with mutually complementary releasable locking mechanisms and electrical connecting mechanisms, wherein the locking mechanisms and the electrical connecting mechanisms are formed in the area of the docking surface (A) and arranged such that the at least one function module (2) perpendicular to the docking surface (A) can be docked and releasably locked on the at least one module plug-in site (12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4).
