The invention relates to devices for transporting goods and people on stairs and flat surfaces and, in particular, to occupied wheelchairs. The transportation device comprises a frame, to which a seat for accommodating an individual is secured from above, and a lifting mechanism. Individual longitudinal horizontal guides are fastened to the front, the back, the left and the right of the frame respectively, each guide having an angular wheel support secured thereon in such a way as to be movable in a longitudinal horizontal direction, and a drive for the longitudinal horizontal movement of the support along the frame in order to adjust the length of the longitudinal base between the axles of a pair of crosspieces. A wheeled undercarriage is comprised of four crosspieces with supporting running wheels on each arm of each crosspiece. A horizontal pivot shaft with a running supporting wheel immovably fastened thereto is fastened to the end of each crosspiece arm, perpendicular to the axis of the arm. The axle of each crosspiece is connected by a mechanical gear to a drive for rotating the crosspiece in question via the axle. A steering system is mounted on the frame, wherein for each arm a wheel axle is disposed on a longitudinal axle mounted along the end of the arm such that the wheel axle is able to rotate about the longitudinal axle.
