A fluid transfer device (302) comprises a fluid chamber (304) in communication with a male connector tip (306), The male connector tip (306) is tapered to form a friction fit when inserted in a corresponding female hub. One or more lever members (314) are pivotally mounted to the device and comprise a front surface (318) that is substantially transverse to the axis of the male connector tip (306) and one or more side surfaces (316) that extend in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of the male connector tip (306). The front surface (318) is moveable along the male connector tip (306) between a first position proximal to the fluid chamber (304) and a second position spaced from the first position towards a distal end of the male connector tip (306). The side surface(s) (316) form a shroud extending back from the front surface (318) towards the fluid chamber (304) to at least partially surround the fluid chamber (304).
