A flexible string of dental floss 2 has a set of bristles which form a double cone shaped brush member 1 that tapers from each side of a wider central portion. Preferably the string 2 is a continuous length running centrally through the brush member 1. The string 2 may be a single unit of length 250 mm with the brush member 1 positioned centrally along the string length, or a 2000 mm long reel with a repeating sequence of brush members 1. The double cone shaped formation may enable the brush 1 to enter gaps along the gum line, between teeth, and under dental bridges from one of its leading narrow ends before expanding to the thicker central portion to push out trapped food.
