A guide wire (1) includes a wire body (10) having a tapered portion (22) disposed on a distal end portion thereof and having an outside diameter progressively reduced toward a distal end thereof. The guide wire includes a coil (4) disposed in covering relation to the distal end portion of the wire body and a helically shaped wire. The coil (4) includes an increasing wire-diameter portion (41) where the diameter of the wire increases continuously toward a distal end thereof, the increasing wire-diameter portion being disposed in covering relation to the outer circumference of at least a portion of the tapered portion in a longitudinal direction.
