An ostomy pouching system comprises a fixing plate and a bag having an opening. The fixing plate comprises: a central hole for receipt of a stoma a first major surface that in use faces a patients body a second major surface that in use faces away from the patients body means for attaching the fixing plate to a patients body and means for attaching the opening of the bag to the second major surface of the fixing plate surrounding the central hole. The central hole has a perimeter that is smaller than a perimeter of the stoma, and at least a portion of the first major surface that surrounds the central hole comprises a resiliently deformable region capable of stretching to form a neck region that conforms to a sidewall of the stoma when the stoma protrudes through the central hole.
