Abstract: A novel biopesticidal formulation with improved shelf life and a method for its preparation are reported. Heat tolerant entomopathogenic nematode such as Steinernema thermophilum has been incorporated, immobilized and trapped into a water insoluble superabsorbent hydrogel matrix of semi synthetic origin. A simple method comprising incorporation, immobilization and trapping of nematodes in hydrogel has been developed. The obtained formulation has improved shelf life ranging from 36 months to lew hours at storage temperatures of 5 to 50°C. It was not infected by any microorganism, and hence did not require any anti microbial chemical. The formulation does not require any chemical reagent to facilitate the release of nematodes at the time of application.
