PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device for an endoscope, which changes the frequency of blinking light if the blinking light penetrates human eyes.

SOLUTION: The light source device for the endoscope is for feeding illumination light to the endoscope. The light source device includes an illumination light blinking means disposed between a light source and a light guide of the endoscope for periodically blinking the passing illumination light, a control means for controlling the illumination light blinking means in such a way as to blink the illumination light at a first frequency based on a signal from the endoscope, and an illumination light detecting means for detecting the illumination light emitted from the endoscope. When the illumination light is detected by the illumination light detecting means, the control means controls the illumination light blinking means in such a way as to blink the illumination light at a second frequency higher than the first frequency.
