Apparatus for positioning single or plurality of objects for 360 degree surface examination includes a stage module which may be attached to a standard imaging device or microscope, and a control module. The stage module is comprised of an opening stage and a rotating stage. The opening stage include plurality of finger type sample holders which quantitatively separates in half of the total number of fingers. The finger type sample holders may be rotated about their central axis, and are linked together such that their rotational movements are equal in magnitude and same in direction. The rotational movements of the sample holders may be controlled manually or by motor power. The rotating stage is supported on a magnetic bush holder. The method for 360 degree surface examination of objects include the step of rotating the sample holders so that the total 360 degree surface of the objects placed on finger type sample holders are in the field of view of the imaging device. The method further includes the step of separation of fingers while in indexed position to opening and closing the face of the single or plurality of objects in front of the imaging device.
