An end effector for a surgical instrument having various types of mechanisms for releasably holding at least one auxiliary material is provided. The end effector has a first jaw having a cartridge and a second jaw having an anvil. The attachment mechanism has a middle portion and first and first end mechanisms disposed on opposite sides of the middle portion and configured to mate with at least one of the first and second jaws. And a holding filament having two ends.
