Provided is an antibody or an epitope-binding fragment thereof that specifically binds to an EphA2 receptor and is an antagonist of said receptor. The antibody inhibits EphA2 tyrosine phosphorylation in the presence of ephrinA1. Medicaments containing the antibody can inhibit the migration of cancer cells and can be used to treat various cancers. Further provided are specific antibody sequences and deposited hybridomas producing the antibodies. The antibodies may be conjugated with cytotoxic agents.
