[Class 30] Pruning shears 7 mounted on one end of a long handle 1 are actuated by a pair of members 12, connected to the other end by links 13, and to a rod 3 by links 15. The rod passes along a central bore 2 in the handle and is connected at the other end by toggle links 8 to the shears 7. When the members 12 are gripped by the hand they move inwards with parallel motion and draw down the rod 3 closing the jaws of the shears. Return motion is given by a helical spring 18. The plane of the members 12 is at right angles to that of the blades 7.
