The introducer (102) includes an outer wall segment (102a) defining a longitudinal axis and a longitudinal port passage extending therethrough. The outer wall segment (102a) has a longitudinal slot (114) in communication with the port passage. The elongated introducer (102) is dimensioned for at least partial introduction within an opening in tissue. The surgical port (200) includes a port body (211) having leading (206) and trailing (204) ends, an intermediate segment disposed between the leading (206) and trailing (204) ends and at least one passageway (202) for reception and passage of a surgical instrument. The port body (211 ) is mounted to the elongated introducer (102) with one of the leading (206) and trailing (204) ends disposed within the port passage and with the intermediate segment extending through the longitudinal slot (114) and the other of the leading (206) and trailing (204) end external of the elongated introducer (102). The port body (211) is dimensioned to be advanced within the port passage for deployment through the opening in the tissue as generally directed by the elongated introducer (102). The port body (211 ) comprising a compressible material and is adapted to transition from a compressed state when mounted to the elongated introducer (102) to a released state when deployed from the elongated introducer (102). 7128748_1:hxa1/15 122 1201 "A"l 132 1A21 112---34 14b 102a 104 202 1A-1 106 204 11 4a7 118 114a 114b 116 200 N*- 208 110 12 FIG. 1A-1 FIG. 1A 26210 "l 100 122 1,140 120 20 C204 11220 10220 102a 114a 211 210 116 206 FIG. 1B
