A pharmaceutical composition suitable for the treatment of cancer, a malignant tumor, a benign tumor and a non-malignant disease by intratumoral injection, containing, in an aqueous solution, a Na source, providing a Na concentration of from about 2.0 M to about 5.5 M in an aqueous solution .2. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, further comprising a Ca source providing a Ca concentration from about 50 mM to about 3.0 M in aqueous solution. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 2, wherein the source of Na is NaCl and the source of Ca is CaCl. 4. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the source of Na is an inorganic salt other than NaCl and the source is an inorganic salt other than CaCl. 5. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the source of Na is an organic salt having an organic counterion and the source of Ca is an organic salt having an organic counterion. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1, wherein the tumor is a benign tumor selected from adenomas, angiomas, atheromas, fibromas, lipomas, teratomas, thyromes, cysts, polyps, neoplasms of the skin and soft tissue, cystic fibrous changes in the breast, benign prostatic hyperplasia thyroid gland and hyperthyroidism. 7. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the cancer is selected from a cancer or a cancer of the brain, glioma, thyroid cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, kidney cancer, colorectal carcinoma, cervical cancer, carcinoma ovary, cancer, and malignant tumors of the skin and soft tissue. 8.
