The invention relates to a mechanical actuator for Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE), a method for inducing shear waves for Magnetic Resonance Elastography as well as respective system and method for Magnetic Resonance Elastography using the principle of centrifugal force for wave induction. The mechanical actuator comprises a passive driver including a rotational turbine vibrator (10) having an eccentric weight (20), the turbine vibrator (10) being powered by a fluid (e.g. compresses air or water), and an active driver (30) configured to control the pressure of the fluid powering the turbine vibrator (10).
