The present invention relates to a pulse wave measuring apparatus and a method thereof and, more specifically, to a pulse wave measuring apparatus and a method thereof capable of remarkably improving the accuracy and reliability of the measurement of a pulse wave by applying an actual pulse diagnosis method. The present invention includes: a pulse sensor for pressurizing the wrist part of a person and detecting a pulse wave according to the pressurization； a driving unit which is combined with the upper part of the pulse sensor and moves the pulse sensor to the wrist part of the person； an operation control unit which controls the operation of the driving unit； and a pulse wave processing unit which determines multiple pressurizing steps having different pressure values respectively, depending on the thickness of a calculated artery after calculating the artery thickness of the person by using the detected pulse wave, wherein the operation control unit controls the operation of the driving unit in order to enable the pulse sensor to pressurize the wrist part of the person according to the multiple pressurizing steps. The present invention is able to remarkably improve the accuracy and reliability of a measured pulse wave and minimize time for measuring a pulse wave since the pulse wave of a person can be measured according to the multiple pressurizing steps which are determined depending on the thickness of the artery of the person based on the actual pulse diagnosis method.
