A urinary catheter assembly comprises a urinary catheter 1 and a tubular casing 2, adapted to be arranged in a first storage position and a second use position. The tubular casing is provided with a narrowing section 21, forming a stop abutment for the distal, non-insertable part of the urinary catheter. A tubular insertion aid 3 is detachably connected to the tubular casing, and arranged in the vicinity of the openable end of the tubular casing. The tubular casing is further provided with a braking element 7 arranged in the vicinity of the openable end, the braking element being arranged inside the tubular casing and allowing temporary fixation of the catheter shaft by compression of the braking element through walls of the tubular casing.
