The inventors have found that the HMGB1 fragment peptide having a specific amino acid sequence exhibits the effects of improving cardiac function, suppressing cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, inhibiting myocardial fibrosis and promoting angiogenesis in animal models of expanded cardiomyopathy, due to true myocardial infarction. Even in animal models of ischemic cardiomyopathy, these specific HMGB1 fragment peptides show the effects of improving cardiac function, suppressing cardiac enlargement, suppressing cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, inhibiting myocardial fibrosis and promoting angiogenesis, and animal models of hypertensive cardiomyopathy.
